Iraq | Iraqi National Security Adviser: There will be no foreign military bases in Iraq

Iraqi National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji stressed that "there will be no foreign military bases in Iraq" announcing that the US side had pledged to withdraw a large part of its forces from Iraqi territory.

Al-Araji made his remarks on Wednesday in a press conference following the talks of Iraqi-American strategic dialogue held between Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

"The American side pledged to withdraw a significant number of its forces from Iraq, and it was agreed that the Iraqi security forces will exclusively take over the task of fighting ISIS," al-Araji said.

The Iraqi National Security Adviser also noted that Baghdad and Washington have agreed on the absence of foreign military bases on Iraqi soil.
