Switzerland | Bahraini Activist: Victims of Torture in Bahrain are Not Just Figures


Bahraini human rights activist Zeinab Al-Khawaja reviewed her bitter experience in Bahrain's prisons in a panel discussion a on Wednesday on the role of the United Nations and international mechanisms to end systematic torture in Bahrain on the sidelines of the 40th session of the Human Rights Council at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

Al-Khawaja said she was in prison two years ago, pointing out that at least a family of four or five of her family are prisoners in Bahrain's prisons and subjected to the worst forms of torture, including her father.

She then called to stop considering the victims of torture in Bahrain including men, women and children as if they were just figures, stressing that they should be considered as citizens and individuals of society.
