Iraq | State of Alert in Najaf and Protesters Attack the Iranian Consulate Again

Iraqi security forces raised the state of alert in the holy city of Najaf and called for all officers.

The security forces blocked Monday morning all roads leading to the Revolution Square and Sayed Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim's shrine.

Reports informed that that situation was relatively stable in Najaf after a tense night as protesters attacked again the Iranian consulate center and neighboring buildings.

A group of saboteurs set fire to the Iranian consulate for the second time in a week and burned houses next to the consulate.

Eyewitnesses said there were families surrounded by fire and children who suffocated.

They also attacked the shrine of Sayed Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim, where they burned four gates of the shrine.

A security source said that an armed group attacked the medical staff which was assisting injured protests in the emergency department in Al-Sadr Hospital in Najaf.
